Professor Klaus Messerschmidt

Prof. Dr. iur. Klaus Messerschmidt studied law at the Goethe University Frankfurt. After taking his second state examination, he moved to the University of Trier, where he received his doctorate on the subject of "legal issues of the collection of environmental taxes". With his habilitation on legislative comprehension he acquired the venia legendi for public law and finance law. In addition to his work as a lawyer, he is an adjunct professor of law school at the Humboldt University of Berlin. He is also part of the Chair of Tax Law and Public Law at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg.


His research interests are in the fields of public law, financial law, European law and environmental law. He is the author of a textbook on European environmental law and a commentary on the Federal Nature Conservation Act. In addition to university teaching and working as a lawyer, he is a member of the Association of German State Law Teachers, the German Society for Legislation and the German Nature Conservation Law Day.
